Community Befriending

Depaul

About Depaul

Depaul is a homeless charity providing accommodation and support through hostels and outreach services. Depaul believes that everyone should have a place to call home and a stake in their community. Our aim is to work with those who are socially excluded and marginalised by providing a quality led service in order to produce the best possible outcomes for those accessing our services. We work in partnership with central and local government, housing associations and other non-governmental organisations such as the society of St Vincent de Paul.

What's Involved

The Community Befriending Programme is an informal and social service supporting men moving out of homeless services and into independent living. The aims of the programme are to ease the change from supported living to independence, to help minimize the risk of returning to homelessness, to reduce isolation by encouraging social interaction, to provide information and appropriate services in the community and to provide a contact point back to Depaul.

We now need more volunteers to link in with men who have moved on from our Back lane service. This will involve a weekly one to one meeting in a social setting for a coffee and a catch up. We also hold monthly outings where all the man meet together for an actively and we need volunteers to assist us on these outings. If you have 2 hours per week and are interested in this role please do get in touch.

What's required for this position

This is a supported role and while the volunteer will meet the participant one to one we do have a support system in place and the volunteer will always have contact with the programme coordinator.
If you are a friendly, warm, non judgmental and empathetic person please do get in touch.
