Clare Youth Service is a young person centred organisation believing that all young people are of equal value and citizens in their own right. They have 68 clubs around the county with over 3,000 young people participating in our services each year.

The Shannon Youth Service is an integrated Service committed to using all elements to support the best possible outcomes for young people. This service exists to serve county Clare's young people aged 12 -25, by providing information on rights and entitlements; by representing youth interests & providing education and training.

What's Involved

STEM in youth work is the process of introducing Science,Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as a hobby in a Youthwork setting. It is developing skills through soldering, wiring and simple programming with young people in an informal setting to encourage an interest in this area.

This type of role is being introduced to young people who may shy away from these areas in school or do not feel that these roles or areas would be accessible to them. The space allocated in Shannon is equipped with the tools to carry out these roles and it encourages young adults to develop their skills as well as their self esteem and confidence.

Projects may include digital creative media such as film making, art & design. podcasting, graphic design or more technical skills such as mechanics or woodwork. All workshops will be will be developed in consultation with the group .

They are currently looking for volunteers with a shared interest to assist with a small group at their dedicated Makerspace in Shannon on Saturdays from 12pm to 3pm.

What's required for this position

Be able to relate and have an interest in working with young people.
Good organisational skills.
Be able to give clear direction and support.
Fluent English both oral and written
Good sense of humour.
Have the ability to join in and have fun.
Have patience and empathy.
