Obair is a social enterprise that has been in existence in Newmarket on Fergus for over 25 years. It provides a wide range of services to the community including a Community Crèche, Educational and Training Programmes, Meals on Wheels and O'Regan Park Playground. The Meals On Wheels project is funded by the Government with the support of Pobal Dormant Accounts & HSE.

What's Involved

South Clare Meals on Wheels is a service that delivers meals to people in their home who are unable prepare their own meals. This service operates from Cafe Fergus in Newmarket on Fergus and primarily delivers to the elderly population of South Clare. These meals are delivered daily in the areas of Newmarket on Fergus, Sixmilebridge, Clarecastle, Quin, Kilmurry, Bunratty and Kilkishen Village.

Due to the increase in demand with COVID 19 they are looking to increase their pool of volunteers over the next few months to provide additional support in the various communities. The are currently looking for volunteers to join their team to carry out the following tasks:-

Assist in carrying the food from the collection point to the vehicle
Assist with taking the food into the homes of the elderly people in the area.
Spend a few minutes chatting with the people on the delivery route.
Accompany the driver as they return containers to the collection point.

Volunteers will always carry out the deliveries in pairs and will be fully inducted before commencement. They will be fully equipped with the relevant masks, gloves etc

This role will be carried out Monday to Friday between 10.30 and 1pm.

What's required for this position

Good communication skills, Have a natural ability to relate well with older people.
They should also have an interest and empathy with people in their senior years.
Good understanding of basic hygiene and be fully compliant with the current hand washing directive at present.

Level of English required for this role:
Fluent English
