LYCS, based in Dublin's North City Centre, is an integrated community based education, training, recreation and development project which is concerned with giving participants the opportunity to become involved in their own development and the development of their community. The organisation is locally based and participatory. Personal and social development are seen as inextricably linked to the development of local community resources.
We provide the following services: Childcare; Youth Project; Community Training Centre; Adult Education; Development Education and Community Employment Scheme.

What's Involved

LYCS is now looking for a Chairperson of the Management Board who will be based in Dublin. The position will offer significant challenges as well as great opportunities to lead the planning and development of committee meetings and the organisation, especially in the next two years as we prepare to move into the refurbished Rutland Street School. The successful candidate will be integral in driving our community focussed objectives and the development and launch of our new building, making a real difference in Dublin’s north east inner city.

Purpose of the Role:
The successful candidate will lead the organisation and act as spokesperson for LYCS, representing the organisation internally and externally and guiding the organisation’s functions according to the agreed strategy/policy. The Chair will be expected to build relationships with the other Board members to guide LYCS through the current and developing processes of Charity and corporate governance as well as provide support to all Board members and be available for consultation with the CEO. With the Chair at the helm the Management Board supports and guides the management staff and has an important role to play in expanding the funding and support base and ensuring that full and effective governance systems are in place and is willing to make essential and emergency decisions between board meetings when required. The Chair ensures that LYCS as a whole adheres to its ethos, policies and procedures.

The Chairperson will be selected so as to create a diverse Board membership that includes men and woman of independent mind. The role is an unpaid voluntary position. Further details about our current board here

Time Commitment
Ideally the new Chairperson would be prepared to commit 1-2 hours per week to the role, or 8 hours per month. Currently the LYCS Board meets in the late afternoon/ early evening once per month and on a Saturday twice per year.

The Recrutment Process
