Physical Activity Buddy - Help someone with a disability get active

Sligo Sports & Recreation Partnership

About Sligo Sports & Recreation Partnership

At Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership our aim is to support increased participation in sport and active recreation throughout County Sligo. In achieving this we provide assistance in the areas of sports development, education and training and general information on sporting activities in Sligo. We work in partnership with sporting clubs, community organisations and local and disability agencies in achieving our goal of having MORE PEOPLE, MORE ACTIVE, MORE OFTEN.

What's Involved

Currently we're not running due to the COVID19 crisis but if interested please hit 'register interest' below and we'll be in touch when we re-open.

We often require volunteers to buddy up with people (adults&/children) who need a bit of extra support to get active. This could be helping them participate in a group activity such as games for all, cycling, soccer, boccia, walking, summer camps etc. Or it may involve meeting adult participants individually at the outdoor gym or at one of the many gyms around town. In this case the times are usually flexible and can be arranged to suit you and the person you are buddied with.

You do not need any particular expertise although some interest in supporting/befriending people is helpful. For most activities you do not need to be particularly sporty or super fit.
If you're interested we can chat about our current service user's needs and see if there is a good match for you.

What's required for this position
