About Fighting Blindness

Fighting Blindness is working to cure blindness, support people living with sight loss and empower patients. We promote and facilitate the development of treatments and cures which are accessible to everyone affected by sight loss. Our counselling and support services are available to people affected directly and indirectly by sight loss. We work in partnership with all stakeholder groups in the areas of health, science, industry and government to empower patients and to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against blindness.

What's Involved

Are you free on Saturday 16th November and like to support people who are visually impaired at an event? The event is a conference designed for people who are living with sight loss and their families, covering; recent research, supports available, selfcare and advocacy.

On the day, tasks will include:
1. Guiding someone who is blind or visually impaired
2. Assisting people to their seats and to different sessions
3. Assisting with tea/coffee
4. Assisting with guide dogs
5. Manning information desks and assisting with other event tasks as required.

Information and training will be provided about how to guide someone who has a vision impairment.

Time Commitment
Orientation and training will take place at 8.00am on the morning of the event. The event will start at 8.45am. We will need volunteers until about 2.30pm

What's required for this position

1. Strong verbal communication skills
2. Good teamwork
3. Ability to work flexibly
4. Experience volunteering at events
5. Experience working with people with sight loss preferred but not required.

Training and supoprt will be provided.

Fluent English
