Here at Cherry Orchard Hospital we are setting up a ‘trishaw project’ to promote and increase the community integration of our residents (see Cycling Without Age website for further details). We will be looking for local volunteers to support the project and become 'Trishaw Pilots'. All volunteers will need to complete HSE volunteer applications and Garda vetting. They will then receive training from ourselves in relation to the program.

What's Involved

We are currently launching our Trishaw pilot programme.

Do you love cycling? Would you be interested in taking time out of your day to share your passion and skills with less able adults? We are looking for interested and dedicated cyclists to become TRISHAW PILOTS, to bring some of our residents from Cherry Orchard Hospital out and about in the local community in summer/autumn of 2021.

What's Involved:
We are looking for active and outgoing volunteers, who enjoy the company of older adults to step up and become ‘Trishaw Pilots’ for our upcoming ‘Cycling Without Age' initiative.

Your role will be to befriend some of our residents while cycling and steering them around the local community on our new Trishaw. You will be enhancing the quality of life of our residents by providing companionship, increasing their engagement in their local community, and getting out and about in the fresh air.

It is required that all Applicants will need to be fully vaccinated and will need to have a covid screening form/temperature before taking out a resident.

What's required for this position

• Good communication skills; chatty with a listening ear
• Caring and friendly nature, willingness to make new friends
• Enjoy the outdoors
• Reliable and punctual
• Experience of cycling and road safety is also essential to fulfil this role.

Training will be provided
Do not be concerned if you are unfamiliar with using a Trishaw. You will be provided with ‘Trishaw Pilot’ training prior to getting started, and you will always be accompanied by a HSE staff member during outings.
