Hygiene Hub

About Hygiene Hub

Hygiene Hub is a grass-roots, people-powered charity working to end hygiene poverty across Ireland by freely providing hygiene, personal care and household cleaning items to those who need them. We are compassionate, collaborative and rooted in community. Established in 2019, Hygiene Hub has distributed over 45,000kg of hygiene products to those in our communities who may otherwise have gone without. We believe that being clean is a right, not a privilege and yet many in Ireland cannot afford the everyday essential hygiene items most of us take for granted. We are a network of supporters, volunteers and partners working towards a simple mission: to tackle hygiene poverty across Ireland.

What's Involved

Become a volunteer at The Hygiene Bank Dublin and help to tackle Hygiene Poverty around you.

Hygiene poverty is a stigmatised, little known form of poverty that could affect 20% or more of the Irish population. Hygiene poverty is having to choose between food, heating or bills and toiletries or personal grooming products. Figures in the UK show that people stop buying hygiene products long before they rely on food banks and we see this reality in Ireland as well.

The Hygiene Bank Dublin tackles Hygiene Poverty by asking the general public to donate unused, unopened toiletries, which the team then sorts through, logs and donates on to our charity partners across Dublin. Around 20% of the Irish population is in, or is at risk of poverty, this number is expected to rise in the wake of Covid-19, the recession and high rates of unemployment.

The Role
As a Hygiene Bank Dublin volunteer you will help by setting up a Drop Off Point in your local area to allow the general public to donate unused, unopened toiletries. You will be in charge of managing your Drop Off Point and will be expected to collect the products together when the box is full and transport them to our storage. You may also be asked to transport toiletries from our storage to where our charity partners are based around Dublin.

We have informal meetings every 2 weeks to catch up and plan our focus for the next collection so all volunteers will have the opportunity to feed into the direction of the organisation.
