DIY Support Group Facilitator

Serve The City Dublin

About Serve The City Dublin

As a volunteer-led community initiative, the aim of Serve the City is simply to meet the practical needs of people in our community. We seek to bring support to those who need it through a variety of service projects. By painting a room; clearing an overgrown garden; putting up shelves; providing cultural and social activities for asylum seekers and refugees; or befriending programmes, we demonstrate care within the community. We are part of an international movement of Serve the City organisations in over 50 cities worldwide.

Our core values actively guide our work: humility, compassion, respect, courage, love and hope. Read more in our strategic plan – Volunteers Serving Communities.

What's Involved

Are you good at organising and facilitating? Would you like a flexible volunteer role while also making an impact in your community? Serve the City gets referrals from social workers, local authorities, concerned family members etc. on behalf of people who need practical/DIY help e.g. cleaning, painting/wall-papering, decluttering or gardening. The work is carried out by a team of volunteers, under the guidance of a DIY Project Leader, on SERVE Days. We would like to set-up a peer support group for our Project Leaders in the form of bi-monthly meetings, organised and run by a small panel of facilitators.

Tasks
• Organise and chair DIY Project Leader Support Group meetings 2-4 times per year.
• Draft and circulate the agenda in advance, including a review of previous and upcoming SERVE Days, relevant training and processes.
• Support the Group to partake in knowledge sharing.
• Make recommendations on process improvements.
• Take minutes and circulate these to the Group and the Board, including any recommendations.
• Act as an independent voice on behalf of the Group with the Board, where necessary.

We ask that Facilitators commit to leading 2-3 meetings per year. The meetings will be approx. 2 hours with preparation in advance and typing up minutes afterwards.
