About Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA)
The Irish Wheelchair Association is a national organisation dedicated to the achievement of full social, economic and educational integration of people with disability as equal, independent and participative members of the community.
What's Involved
We are looking for volunteers that helps advocate our campaign.
What you will do:
• Work with the IWA Advocacy Officer on campaigns that highlight the issues impacting the lives of people with disabilities.
• Participate in the IWA Advocacy Campaign Training to learn about the issues IWA lobbies to address and find out how you can play a part.
• Work with the IWA Advocacy Officer to develop a list of contacts in your local area who will receive campaign messages. Support IWA to develop local relationships with politicians and identified influencers.
• Contact the approved list of politicians and influencers to convey the key messages of the advocacy campaign at the times identified by the IWA Advocacy Officer. These time periods will most likely be focussed on: pre-budget submission, general elections, and specific campaign issues at certain times of year.
• Engaging in campaigning activities including: sending letters prepared by IWA to local politicians, sharing a personal story, conveying a key message/postcard at election times to electoral candidates. Another important activity will be supporting IWA social media campaigns by liking, sharing and retweeting IWA social media posts.
• Provide feedback to the IWA Advocacy Officer about any responses received
• Follow the direction and guidance of IWA’s Advocacy Officer at all times when participating in campaign activities.
• Abide by the communications protocols outlined in the IWA Advocacy Campaign Training programme
What's required for this position
• Personal knowledge of, or, interest in issues affecting people with physical disability in Ireland.
• Prior experience of disability related issues or campaigning is not required, but a willingness to learn is.
• Be a team player & be willing to work in co-operation and follow the protocols of the campaign
• Good interpersonal skills Willingness to be a voice for IWA, conveying the agreed messages in a positive and respectful manner at all times

Location of volunteering opportunity:
Volunteers will work from their own homes, but the training will be provided in IWA, Blackheath Drive, Clontarf, Dublin 3
