About Foroige Big Brother Big Sister Programme
This programme is operated by Foroige, the National Youth Development Organisation. The Big Brother Big Sister Mentoring Programme is a professionally supported friendship programme for young people aged 10-18. It operates by matching adult volunteers in the community with young people who require a little extra support in their lives. Volunteers are asked to develop a friendship and create new opportunities for young people. The young person and adult volunteer are matched-up based on common interests and personalities. They meet once a week for a year and together decide on the type of activities that they would like to do.
What's Involved
Big Brother Big Sister Volunteers are asked to spend one or two hours a week with a young person. Participants are between the ages of 10 and 18 and are individuals who would benefit from developing a friendship with a caring adult outside of their family.
Together the adult and the young person will decide on the type of activities they would like to do ... go for coffee, play football, do arts and crafts, play computer games or listen to music.
This role can be flexible for both the mentor and the young person; meetings will happen at a place and time that is mutually convenient.
