One to One Volunteering Role 1

St. Christophers Services for People with an Intellectual Disability, Longford.

About St. Christophers Services for People with an Intellectual Disability, Longford.

St Christopher's Services provides a person centred, comprehensive, efficient and innovative service to people with intellectual disabilities. It is a high quality, community-based service, based on identified individualised needs, enabling service users to reach their fullest potential.

What's Involved

"Leisure Buddies" Friendship Programme in association with St. Christophers services for people with disabilities. A Volunteer is required to befriend a man in his fifties, who is a wheelchair user living in a community residential centre in Longford Town. The volunteer who would ideally be of similar age will support him to get out socially and have some fun in the evening times either once in the evening time during the week or at the weekend. This would be either on a weekly or fortnightly basis for 2-3 hours. This may involve going to the pub to watch a football match, going to the Mall, to a concert, go for a pint, or to just meet him on a regular basis for a chat. This would be a great support and a huge benefit to this gentleman. We would ask that a volunteer would committ for at least 6 months thus enabling this gentleman to access more leisure and social opportunities in his community, promote his wellbeing and boaden his social experiences and networks. The gentleman is looking for someone with a sense of humour who is interested in local GAA, sports and music. Transportation will be provided if needed for any activities.
