About St. John Ambulance Ireland
St John Ambulance is a registered charity providing first aid training to members of the public, as well as providing first aid and advanced cover (as required) at local and national events, should someone suddenly become unwell. Our vision is that everyone should have immediate access to first aid no matter where they are or what they are doing at the onset of illness and injury.
We are always looking for bright and enthusiastic people to join us and help make that vision a reality. No experience is necessary and should you have any skills which you feel we might find useful, do let us know. All our volunteers are provided with induction training on joining and are mentored during their probationary period. Divisions (Branches) of St. John Ambulance exist throughout Ireland.
What's Involved
Full training in first aid is provided including induction training which is held over two days at the weekend. Once Induction training is completed volunteers may attend their local branch (division) of St. John Ambulance where they can consolidate and develop their new or existing skills. At your local division you will attend training one evening a week or as much as possible.
Once your Garda Vetting application has been processed we will be in a position to order your uniform which will then enable you to attend local and national events where you will carry out the charitable aims of our organisation by providing First Aid to members of the public.
All new volunteers are mentored during their probationary period by a more experienced volunteer.
After you have applied:
New Volunteer queries are mostly followed up by email from your local branch. Keep an eye out for an email from us. St John Ambulance is a registered charity run completely by volunteers in their spare time.
Dublin - For volunteers living in Dublin you will be invited to a volunteer information evening where you will learn all you need to know about volunteering with us.
Outside Dublin - For volunteers outside Dublin you will be invited to visit your local division for an informal chat / interview where you will learn about your volunteer role.

What's required for this position
New volunteers should have an interest in helping others. Be willing to work as part of a team.
Costs
A fee of €55 is required to complete your volunteer induction course which covers the cost of your First Aid Book, a pocket mask for resuscitation training and photocopying.
Volunteers who fully become a St. John Ambulance Volunteer (after induction) are reimbursed €30 which goes towards the cost of their uniform. The cost of the uniform is €150 which is usually paid for in installments at your local division (branch).
Induction Training
Information about the induction course will be provided at your local branch / information evening. Volunteers already with a recognised and in-date first aid certificate are exempt from part of the volunteer induction programme.
