About Dublin Simon Community
Dublin Simon Community works to prevent and address homelessness in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Meath, Louth, Cavan and Monaghan. We provide services at all stages of homelessness and enable people to move to a place they can call home.
What's Involved
To offer support and counselling to the service users of Dublin Simon Community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Role Responsibilities :
1. Engage with and build a professional trusting relationship with clients treating them with dignity and respect.
2. One to one counselling.
3. Group facilitation
4. Assist with service promotion and development.
5. Maintain accurate, confidential records of clinical practice in line with code of conduct, ethics and to operate within the organisations policies and procedures guidelines.
6. To participate in non clinical supervision with assigned Dublin Simon community counselling coordinator
7. Participate with Dublin Simon communities events where necessary.
8. To comply with Dublin Simon community Garda clearance and reference.
9. To operate within all the policies and procedures and guidelines as stipulated by Dublin Simon Community, data protection confidentiality and appropriate governing bodies e.g. IACP/BACP/ACI/IAHIP etc...
10. Regularly attending your external and internal support and external clinical supervision and further professional development.
11. To show reasonable flexibility in relation to hours of attendance to meet the needs of the role . Attendance during unsocial hours may be required.
12. To report any area of concern to your counselling coordinator in a timely manner.
13. To undertake the role in a manner that is friendly, flexible and informal.
14. Ensure all records and systems are kept up to date in a clear and concise manner in line with organisational policies and procedures and your own professional standards.
What's required for this position
- Diploma counselling/psychotherapy (min 3 years duration) Membership of relevant counselling body (IACP, IAHIP, ACI etc.).
- Experience in addiction and group facilitation.
- Experience of working with challenging behaviour.
- Experience working with CBT and solution focused model.
- Understanding of why people become homeless and the needs they have.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal and teamwork skills .
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Motivated.
- Ability to respond in a professional manner to challenging and stressful situations.

This position will offer a fully qualified counsellor/psychotherapist an opportunity to work up their hours towards full accreditation, in addition to volunteering full time in a specialised counselling service.
