About Foroige - Sligo Branch
Foróige is the leading youth organisation in Ireland and has been working with young people since 1952. Our purpose is to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their development and in the development of society.
We work with over 50,000 young people aged 10-18 each year through volunteer-led Clubs and staff-led Youth Projects. Foróige currently operates in 26 counties in Ireland, with 614 Foróige Clubs, 160 Youth Projects, the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programme, the Foróige Youth Entrepreneurship programme, our Youth Citizenship and Youth Leadership programmes.
Foróige works with all young people through our general services. Foróige Clubs, Foróige Juniors, Foróige Interest Clubs, Foróige Youth Cafés encourage young people to take responsibility for themselves and to be part of shaping the world around them while developing their talents, skills and abilities. We also work with vulnerable young people who require additional support through a full range of targeted services.
What's Involved
We are looking to expand our volunteer team so if you can sign up to help with any of the following activities:
As a volunteer you will help provide a space for young people where they can socalise and enjoy sports, music, games, get-togethers or other activities that youth are interested in. We currently require the help of new volunteers for the following opportunities for 2015:
1. Zumba:
To work along side our Zumba instructor in supervisory capacity. Time Commitment: Every Thursday 5:30-7.00pm:
2. Guitar Workshop:
We require an experienced musician or music-expert to plan and provide guitar lesions to a group of young people in a secure & relaxed environment. Time commitment: Every Thursday 6:30-7:30pm from February-June 2015.
3. Friday Drop-In:
We require the help of volunteers to participate and interact with our young people though range of activities from participating in a game of pool, card/board game, x-box, wii etc. We greatly welcome any volunteer with a skill or interest to share in our Friday drop-In from operating a DJ set (Equipment provided) to organised activities in our sports hall. Time commitment: Every Friday, 3:45-5:15pm
4. Multi-Sports Group:
Calling all sports-Fanatics, we have an exclusive sports hall available to cater for any volunteer who would like to get involved and devise and facilitate sports activities for our young people. Activities can arrange from but not limited In-door Soccer, Basketball, Tennis and sporting activity. Time Commitment: Every Thursday, 7:15-8:45pm (To be confirmed)
5. Volunteer-Led Group/Special-Interest Group:
We greatly welcome volunteers who have a particular skill, hobbies or interest that they would like to teach or share to a group of young people. Such groups can vary from arts, drama, crafts, languages, IT or practical skills such as first-Aid, fitness classes that could be beneficial to our young people. These groups can be delivered over an agreed amount of sessions usually 6-8 weeks, at a day and time suitable to the volunteers.
What's required for this position
An interest in working with young people perhaps a general interest in Sports/ games/ Drama/ Music/Passion or Skill to share. Good Communication and Interpersonal skills. Patient, Reliable and Committed.
Interest in Sports and Fitness and activities enjoyed by young people.
