What's Involved

GAEILGE: Táimid ag tabhairt cuireadh don phobal tras-scríobh a dhéanamh, ar bhonn deonach, ar scéalta agus ar ábhar a bailíodh mar chuid de Bhailiúchán na Scol trí úsáid a bhaint as cur chuige an tsluafhoinsithe ar ár suíomh www.duchas.ie/ga/meitheal . Daltaí bunscoile a bhailigh an t-ábhar seo idir 1937 agus 1939 mar chuid de Scéim na Scol ag Coimisiún Béaloideasa Éireann. Is deis iontach atá anseo léargas a fháil ghnéithe den saol agus den bhéaloideas mar a bhí sna 130idí tríochaidí chomh maith le cleachtadh maith praiticiúil a fháil ar chur chuige an tsluafhoinsithe. Táthar ag lorg pictiúr de na scoileanna (mar a bhí agus mar atá) agus de na daltaí féin chomh maith. Tá tacaíocht ar fáil do mhúinteoirí agus do léachtóirí a bhfuil spéis acu agus ag a gcuid daltaí nó mac léinn páirt a ghlacadh sa tionscadal seo agus seolfar paca póstaeir agus bróisiúir amach chucu. Tá ábhar tionscadail ranga nó ábhar teagaisc/staidéir den scoth anseo. Féach roinnt samplaí. Is féidir clárú leis an meitheal ar an suíomh ag an nasc seo.

ENGLISH: Dúchas.ie hosts the Schools’ Collection of folklore and local tradition compiled by primary school pupils in the Irish Free State between 1937 and 1939. We are inviting users of the Dúchas.ie site to transcribe, on a voluntary basis, stories that were collected as part of the Schools’ Collection. This is an opportunity to get a deeper insight into aspects of life and folklore in the 1930s and to get some hands-on experience of crowd-sourcing. The material itself is fascinating - you can see some examples here. We are also asking for pictures of the schools (then and now) and of the students. There is a poster and brochure pack available to support teachers and lecturers who would like to get their students involved in this project - excellent material for a lesson plan. You can register to transcribe at this link.
