CoderDojo Mentor

Coderdojo Longford

About Coderdojo Longford

CoderDojo is a global movement of free, volunteer-led, community based programming clubs for young people. At a Dojo, young people, between 7 and 17, learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and explore technology in an informal and creative environment. In addition to learning to code attendees meet like minded people and are exposed to the possibilities of technology.

What's Involved

Our coding clubs for young people are run entirely by volunteers.

Volunteer Mentors are needed to assist children and young people aged 7-17 to learn about a variety of programming technologies in a club situation. The club generally runs in line with school terms from Sept-May.

The club will take place in the Enterprise Office on the Ballinalee Road.

Volunteers must be observant, encouraging and have basic coding skills. However, they are not expected to be teachers, this club is a fun, informal environment for young people to develop skills themselves. Indeed some participants will bypass their mentors in terms of their skills but will still need adult mentors to guide and support them.

We are open to people of all backgrounds, gender and abilities getting involved in CoderDojo, both as volunteer mentors and young people. If you're potentially interested and have basic coding skills, please click apply and we can talk about it further.

What's required for this position

This is NOT a teaching role. Young people are encouraged to solve programming problems amongst themselves; mentors step in when problems can't be solved or as required. Volunteers should have some coding (HTML, C# etc.) experience. They need to be observant and encouraging so they can help participants who may need a little help. We are open to mentors of all backgrounds with even a basic coding knowledge, please get in touch!
