Literacy Tutor

Depaul

About Depaul

Depaul is a homeless charity providing accommodation and support through hostels and outreach services. Depaul believes that everyone should have a place to call home and a stake in their community. Our aim is to work with those who are socially excluded and marginalised by providing a quality led service in order to produce the best possible outcomes for those accessing our services. We work in partnership with central and local government, housing associations and other non-governmental organisations such as the society of St Vincent de Paul.

What's Involved

Reading and Writing are considered essential skills in almost every walk of life. Depaul work with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We strive to provide services that assist people with all aspects of their lives.

In our work we come in contact with very vulnerable adults and for many struggling with literacy skills is a daily reality. Therefore we are seeking a volunteer to work alongside service users developing their literacy skills. This must be approached with the utmost sensitivity and empathy. For many people even admitting they have literacy issues is extremely difficulty. The approach for this role is to spend time getting to know our service users and slowly introduce literacy assistance in a one-on-one setting. If you have skills to assist people with literacy issues and are also understanding and patient then we would love to hear from you.
