About Volunteer Ireland

Volunteer Ireland is the national organisation that promotes, supports and advocates for volunteering in Ireland. We work with a range of stakeholders to make volunteering accessible, inclusive and of high quality. We build capacity in organisations and companies to create meaningful volunteering experiences. We celebrate volunteering and communicate its impact to Government and the wider public. We advocate for volunteering so that its value is recognised. We support the network of Volunteer Centres and work closely with them to ensure volunteering thrives at local and national level.

Our work is guided by our strategic plan 2023-2027, where we have identified five strategic goals:

  • Advocate for volunteering
  • Support the Volunteer Centres
  • Develop meaningful volunteering
  • Raise the profile of volunteering
  • Grow and sustain an excellent organisation, consistent with our values

What's Involved

Volunteer Ireland (VI) runs a corporate volunteer programme where corporate employees volunteer for a day to paint or refurbish facilities and gardens for charities and community groups. The aim of the corporate programme is two-fold:
1) provide a connection to the community and a meaningful volunteer opportunity for employee volunteers;
2) create and achieve engaging, usable and enjoyable spaces for charities and their service users.

We are looking to connect with a number of individuals, who are skilled in a trade - plastering, painting, carpentry, landscaping and horticulture. We also have occasional need for architects, plumbers and electricians. We might need a plasterer to skim walls in a community centre common room; a landscaper to build a garden patio or walkway at an older person's residential unit; or a carpenter to build storage at a community afterschool programme where they can store their art supplies.

We envision calling on volunteers occasionally, to meet with us at the charity facilities, to advise on projects and also to put your skills to use during or before the volunteer project day. All agreed materials and supplies would be covered by the project budget, it's your time and expertise that we are looking for. It's also important to highlight that budgets for these projects are generally very tight so we are looking for individuals who are comfortable working within limited budgets.
