Ballyfermot Chapelizod Partnership was set up in 1996 as a response to long term unemployment and poverty.The overall aim of the Partnership is to support the community to reach its full potential, to encourage participation, and to target its resources at those most in need in our community.

What's Involved

Have you got green fingers or interested in learning more about gardening? We are looking for volunteers to get involved with our Cherry Orchard Community Garden.

The purpose of the role is to assist in the maintenance and development of the Community Garden. Gardening duties include:

  • Propagation
  • Planting and weeding
  • Plant maintenance and watering
  • Pest and disease control
  • Harvesting and sale of vegetables and fruit and other products
  • Help to maintain the general tidiness of the garden.

    You will be expected to work in groups or on individual tasks.

    What's required for this position

  • Awareness and understanding of working within a garden environment
  • An interest in learning more about growing vegetables, flowers and herbs
  • Good attention to detail and neatness
  • Some experience of working outdoors
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Some gardening skills are desirable but not necessary
  • A willingness to learn and get involved is important

    Level of English required for this role:
    Basic English

    Benefits you will receive as a volunteer

    You will be part of a team of volunteers and Tus workers. You will get to share the produce from the garden and have opportunities to take part in workshops and courses to learn more about gardening.

    We’re based in Cherry Orchard beside the Cherry Orchard Equine Centre. The 79a bus route passes by the garden, the closest Bus Stop is No. 6023. On street parking available.
