About Liberty Recycling

Liberty Recycling is a non-profit organization that funds rehabilitation services and provides (DSP) Department of Social Protection sponsored training for people affected by drug use. It is a registered charity employing over sixty-five people in a social enterprise recycling used textiles, mainly clothing and footwear. Liberty Recycling provides practical work experience in a real working environment. It provides accredited training, offering in-house an a range of external courses.

What's Involved

Liberty Recycling is a nationally recognised model social enterprise delivering a quality drug rehabilitation programme combined with certified training and education resulting in real progression for participants into mainstream opportunities.

Liberty Recycling will offer work in a seamless environment of referral, support, guidance, after care and supported progression. The Volunteer will gain experience and insight into how a social enterprise scheme operates, and will also have the chance to gain work experience in a busy work setting. There is a small reimbursement for expenses offered with the post. Volunteer travel cost will be covered.

About the Role
Position is based in Bluebell Industrial Estate. Duties include:
• Sort and grade textiles/ clothes - be able to identify types of textiles and place correctly in appropriate bins.
• Quality control of textiles/ clothes
• “Feed” the Belt - send correct textiles up belt and identify and remove those that don’t.
• Fill out relevant forms/ notice boards for bales
• Learn to use as appropriate, baling, cutting & weighing machines, and drive forklift if necessary

Participating on the factory floor the volunteer will gain experience in working with large machinery/conveyor belt production. The volunteer will also be able to observe as to the workings of a large social enterprise. Liberty Recycling collects, sorts, grades and packs used clothing and footwear for reuse in clothes markets in developing countries and for reprocessing into products including mattresses and insulation. Surplus cotton material is cut and baled into cleaning wipes for local customers including Dublin Bus, motor factors and cleaning companies.

Volunteering in Liberty will enable a volunteer to get an insight into how valuable this work is for the community and also how Liberty Recycling is a nationally recognised model social enterprise delivering a quality drug rehabilitation programme combined with certified training and education resulting in real progression for participants into mainstream opportunities.

Commitment of time required to be negotiated.
