Barnardos supports children whose well being is under threat, by working with them,their families and communities and by campaigning for the rights of children. Barnardos was established in Ireland in 1962 and is Ireland's leading independent children's charity.
What's Involved
The OASIS (Opportunities Assisting Staying in School) programme works to address and hopefully prevent early school leaving. The After School Service will work with identified 6th class children in a national school in Corduff, Dublin 15.
Volunteer Opportunity
We are looking for a volunteer with an interest and / or experience in teaching, childcare or in a social care field for this volunteer role.
The Time Commitment: The volunteer needs to be available two afternoons each week, Tuesday and Thursday, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, until the end of June 2020.
Your responsibilities and tasks will include:
supporting the Barnardos project worker in facilitating positive adult-child interaction; helping with preparation of the environment, equipment and provision of snacks;
assisting the children in their homework, play and development; working as part of the after school team;
recognise issues and concerns and to communicate these to the project worker e.g. child development, socialisation, child protection etc.

- Ideally to have some level of skill and experience in teaching, childcare or in a social care field;
