Brothers of Charity South East

About Brothers of Charity South East

The Brothers of Charity Services is committed to supporting adults and children with an intellectual disability to claim their rightful place as equal and valued citizens in society by offering a range of day, respite and residential supports throughout south Tipperary.

What's Involved

The Brothers of Charity Services offers a range of supports to people with intellectual disability and their families. Some of these supports include day and residential services, respite services, home-based programmes, multidisciplinary care and rehab. We strive every day to enhance the quality of the lives of our service users. Volunteers bring their own unique skills, interests and ideas to the organisation. Volunteering can include helping in a group setting, in a day centre for example, or accompanying groups on outings to the cinema or bowling. It can also involve some one-to-one work. Linking with an individual and helping them to achieve self-identified goals such as learning to swim or join the local gym. Volunteers are matched according to their skills, experience and knowledge. They are linked with a member of front line staff who supports them with any day to day issues.

What's required for this position

No special skills needed. Each volunteer will have something different to offer just as each of our service users have their own unique personality and interests. Experience supporting people with intellectual disability may be an advantage but is certainly not essential. Continued support will be offered to volunteers by staff members and any training that we feel you would benefit from such as first aid or manual handling, will be provided.
