About Africa Day

Africa Day is designated by the African Union as an annual celebration of the continent’s unity. Celebrations to mark the day occur across the globe. It is an opportunity to celebrate African diversity and success.
Irish Aid’s flagship ‘Africa Day Dublin’ event will take place in Farmleigh Estate in the Phoenix Park on Sunday, 27th May. Africa’s rich culture will be showcased through family-friendly activities, along with music, exhibitions, sport and educational elements.

What's Involved

The Africa Day Dublin event will take place in the Farmleigh Estate, Phoenix Park, on Sunday 27th May. As a volunteer, you will be:
• Providing information to event visitors, including distribution of programmes and maps.
• Liaising with performers and groups participating in the event.
• Helping participants to set up equipment.
• Checking the cleanliness of the venue and providing assistance if cleaning is required.
• Providing assistance to event partners.
• Security and supervising equipment in children’s area.

Time Commitment Required: All day Sunday 27th May.

Apart from taking part in a unique celebration of African life and culture, all volunteers will be provided with:
• A certificate of participation and appreciation at a special Irish Aid reception on Thursday, 25th May (location and time TBC)
• An Africa Day t-shirt to wear on the day and to keep as a souvenir.
• Lunch and refreshments during your volunteer shift(s).
• Training and background information to ensure that you are fully briefed and prepared to work at the event.

What's required for this position

Africa Day Volunteers must be available to attend a compulsory volunteer briefing / training session on Tuesday, 15th May at 5.30pm at the Irish Aid Centre on 3 Clonmel Street, (just off Harcourt Street), Dublin 2

Volunteers must be available to work up to 8 hours throughout the course of Africa Day, during the hours of 8am and 8pm on Sunday, 27th May 2018. It would be greatly appreciated if any volunteers who help out during the day could help out with the clean-up at the end of the day.
