About SeniorLine

SeniorLine is a telephone listening service for older people provided by trained older volunteers.

What's Involved

Volunteers who are 55 and over will work as empathic listeners on a telephone line for older people. Volunteers will help each caller explore their reason for calling, any issues that are troubling them and support them in making their own decisions. Volunteers will fill in a log sheet after each call, and signpost callers to other helpful service if appropriate.

Time Commitment: three hours every three weeks.

What's required for this position

Volunteers need to be able to listen to a caller without judgement, without needing to give advice, or to tell the caller what to do. Volunteers need patience, maturity, and common sense. They need to be able to adhere to the policies of the service and to maintain its confidential ethos regarding callers. Volunteers do not speak personally but focus their attention on the caller. As SeniorLine is a peer-support line for callers 55 and over please note the age requirement for volunteers.
