What's Involved

Dublin City Volunteer Centre (DCVC) CLG was formed in January 2014 from a merger of Dublin City North and Dublin City South Volunteer Centres. The Centre serves the Dublin City Council administrative boundary area - a population of 550,000. We are part of the national volunteer infrastructure and a member of Volunteer Ireland. We recently produced a new strategic plan - Volunteer Centre for Our City- which will guide our work until 2020. A vacancy has arisen on the board for a trustee who has experience or a background in any of the following areas: quality management/service, legal or compliance who will play an active role on the Governance sub-group. Could that be you?

Overview of the Role:
We are working towards the achievement of the National Quality Standards Award for Volunteer Centres in Ireland, as well as achieving the Governance Code for a type C organisation. This is an exciting time for the Volunteer Centre and you will help support the overall strategy of the organisation, as well as playing a role on the governance sub-group.

  • Supporting DCVC in its journey to achieve its Quality Standard as well as the Governance Code.
  • Supporting the manager and board in appraising risk, in line with the risk management strategy.
  • Play an active role in the overall governance and development of the Organisation
  • Act as an ambassador for the Centre, actively promoting its work.
  • Adequately preparing for, attending and contributing at board meetings
  • Participation in induction and training, agreeing to relevant codes of conduct and policies and procedures

    What's required for this position

  • Ideally quality-focused, compliance or legal experience but someone who has a sound grasp of governance issues, as they relate to charities would also be suitable.
  • Appraisal skills and critical thinker.
  • A genuine interest in the community and voluntary sector and a commitment to volunteering
  • Strong communication & motivational skills
  • Ability to commit and deliver on agreed actions and deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

    Level of English required for this role:
    Fluent English

    Minimum time commitment: 1 year

    Hours required: 4hrs Monthly

    Other Details

    Location of volunteering opportunity:
    Board meetings take place 6-7 times per year on Mondays from 12:45 - 2pm at Dublin City Volunteer Centre, Aungier Street, Dublin 2. There are sub-group meetings a couple of times a year.
