Crosscare is the social care agency of the Dublin Archdiocese delivering services to those who need them most within the greater Dublin area, working to relieve poverty and serve the needs of the poor and marginalised in the Archdiocese of Dublin. We offer a range of programmes based on innovative approaches to meet new and emerging needs for those affected by homelessness, the needs of young people, and the development of community driven services.

What's Involved

Crosscare Family Hub are looking for volunteers who have a personal background in special needs and are ready to use their life experience to provide a peer-led approach for families who have children with special needs through activity and play. The commitment is 2-4 hours per week (flexible Mon-Fri), with a set time and day to then be agreed with parent and volunteer.

The tasks of this role include:

  • To volunteer with Children with special needs aged 5 and under
  • Peer to peer support to parents in the community
  • To liaise with parents and plan appropriate activities for children
  • To run fun activities for children with special needs both 1to1 or with the parent
  • To engage with children and their families and build relationships
  • To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks

    What's required for this position

    Essential Skills/Qualities:

  • We are looking for a volunteer with personal experience of children with special needs and who have a range of different abilities.
  • We looking for volunteers who are good listeners with an empathetic nature, who are able to withhold judgement.

    Desirable skills/Qualities:
  • Qualifications in the area of Special Needs/Disability/Social Care/Child care
  • Child protection training

    • Community Development/ Social work
    • Education/ Training
    • Hospitality/ Befriending
    • Personable Skills
    • Youth/ Childcare

    Level of English required for this role:
    Intermediate English
