ECO-UNESCO is Ireland's Environmental Education and Youth Organisation affiliated to the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA). ECO-UNESCO’s aims are: to raise environmental awareness, understanding and knowledge of the environment among young people; to promote the protection and conservation of the environment; and to promote the personal development of young people through practical environmental projects and activities.

What is Youth for Sustainable Development?
The Youth for Sustainable Development (YSD) programme is a free youth leadership and peer education programme for young people (aged 15-18) interested in learning more about sustainable development related issues and how to take action!
The programme is run by ECO-UNESCO, Ireland’s environmental education and youth organisation, who are experts in developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in young people related to the environment and Sustainable Development.

We are currently seeking:
Participants (15-18 years) & Volunteers (18+ years)

What’s involved in the programme?

• Activity-based workshops: Using Education for Sustainable Development and Development Education methodologies including debating, drama, art, music, etc.
• Action project: Young people learn about effective team work and undertake their own environmental action project.
• Enter the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards and win cool prizes.
• Gaisce Award: Young people can count time towards their community component.
• Facilitation skills: Training to become peer educators.

What's required for this position

Participants: 15-18 year olds: We are looking for young people who are passionate about environmental and social issues and are keen to work on these issues within a group context.

Volunteers: We are looking for young adults interested in youth work, peer education, and facilitation.
Any previous experience working with young people and interest in environmental and/or social justice issues would be a plus, but is not a requirement.
