About Clare Youth Service Ennis

Clare Youth Service is a young person centred organisation believing that all young people are of equal value and citizens in their own right. The core values of Trust, Listening, Respect, Voluntary Participation, and Representation are reflected in their work. They have 68 clubs around the county with over 3,000 young people participating in our services each year.

What's Involved

Clare Youth Service and Clare Children’s Services have developed and established a youth club for teenagers that attend mainstream secondary school in Clare that have a diagnosis of Autism.

This group have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can find social skills challenging therefore creating a barrier to engage in mainstream youth clubs.
This Youth Club is based in Ennis on a Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 8pm and the tasks are as follows:-
To have a basic knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – Delivered at the volunteering training
To work directly with young people at a community level
To operate as part of a team of leaders involved in planning, evaluating, preparation, committees or other roles required by the youth club.
Establish good working relationships with young people, other volunteers, Clare Children’s Services and staff of Clare Youth Service
Assist in planning activities and encourage participation in the youth service programme.

To ensure the safety of young people in the youth club and to operate under the guidelines and policies of Clare Youth Service Youth and Clare Children's Services volunteers must be willing to undertake Clare Youth Service's minimum standard 6 hour volunteer training programme prior to volunteering. This includes the Child protection and Awareness Programme.

What's required for this position

To bring specialist knowledge and/or experience to their role as a leader where it is positive and beneficial.
To bring an appropriate use of sense of humour, be enthusiastic and enjoy having fun
Interact in a positive way with young people face to face and listen actively to what a young person has to say
Encourage young people to develop their talents and interests
Challenge negative perceptions and behaviour in a supportive manner and challenge young people to treat each other with respect
Engage in team meetings before and after the youth club session
Additional outings e.g. Cinema, bowling etc.
