About Monaghan Helping Hands & Befriending Monaghan
Monaghan Integrated Development's Helping Hands Project has been in operation since 2010. It uses a pool of volunteers to offer a minor repairs and odd jobs service for older people and people with disabilities in Co. Monaghan. The aim is to assist older people to carry out necessary small repairs and improvements to their homes, enabling them to live independently in the community in increased comfort and safety.
In 2018 the service is expanding to include Befriending Monaghan, which will involved volunteers visiting older people who are isolated or lonely.
Befriending Monaghan wishes to pilot a befriending project for older people in the Monaghan Town area in 2018. We are looking for volunteers to visit older people or people with disabilities who are living alone and keep them company for an hour or two each week.
Volunteers will be supported by the project coordinator and will receive training before they are matched with a client.
We expect the some of the older people will prefer daytime visits and others will prefer evening visits. We will match them with volunteers who are available at their preferred time.
About one hour per week.
