What's Involved
Volunteers will be asked to offer regular weekly social contact to the Syrian families,in the family home or in a location suitable to the family and volunteer.
Volunteers will help introduce Syrian families to local free community festivals, events, picnics, walks and other services.
Volunteers will engage in conversational English which will allow those new to the language to practice what they are learning.
Volunteers will meet up with the Syrian people to go shopping, meet for a chat or a catch up and go for a cup of tea / coffee together.
Guidance and advice can be given to the befrienders on suitable activities for spending time with the person they are matched with.
What's required for this position
Volunteers should be friendly, welcoming and have an interest in other cultures.
Training will be provided in principles of intercultural, mediation, cultural understanding. anti-racism training and child protection training.
