What's Involved

We are seeking to expand the skillset of the SWAN Youth Service board to include human resource management. This new role on the board is embedded in our commitment to good governance and good practice. The new board member will work as part of our committed and dynamic team.

Purpose of the role
The Director will be required to attend monthly meetings, usually up to 2 hours long. Also on behalf of the board, occasionally the director would assist the organisation's management in recruitment processes when they arise from time to time by sitting on interview panels.
It is envisaged that the HR person would be able to give advice to the board and management staff on HR matters, employment contracts etc.

Potential areas of work include:
- Contributing to the direction of the youth service
- Participating on interview panels from time to time
- Assisting in the development of the organisations HR policies and procedures
- To work with the CEO and advise the organisation on HR matters
- Being proactive in offering insights and input

Support & Training
- Induction will be provided by the Chair
- The Chair and the CEO will be available for support in the role

Time Commitment:
2 hours a month. There may be occasional extra hours as special needs arise.

We would expect that all management committee members become legal directors of the company.

What's required for this position

Ability to work as part of a team (with the board of directors and management staff). Some knowledge of and interest in the voluntary sector. A good knowledge of HR matters and up to date knowledge of employment law. An interest in youth work, or a will to learn about the work of our youth service.

During Covid restrictions meetings are mostly held remotely.
