About Ballymun Regional Youth Resource
Ballymun Regional Youth Resource (BRYR), is a vibrant Youth Work organisation working with 10-24 year old's in Ballymun, Dublin. Our aim is to empower young people from Ballymun & surrounding areas to reach their full potential. We put in place a range of resources that will support them to make a happy, healthy and successful transition to adulthood. We seek to promote health, well- being and resilience at all stages of their development.
What's Involved
Would you like to share your love of fishing? We are looking for volunteers who enjoy working with young people and who have experience of Fishing.
Your role will be to facilitate Fishing activities with groups of young people who attend our Centre. The young people will be in groups according to their ages;13 to 14yrs, and 15yrs+. There will be a Youth Worker supervising the group and the Fishing volunteer will contribute with their skills and expertise.
There is no pre-prepared plan as the programme will vary according to the needs and interests of the young people and the Fishing instructor.
What's required for this position
Your Fishing experience does need to be at a mid - high level ability. It needs to be strong enough to lead the group. You need to be able to teach and share the practise of safe Fishing with the young people.
Other skills include:
a) good interpersonal skills - an ability to engage with young people aged 10-24yrs of age
b) good active listening skills
c) knowledge of / empathy with the issues young people face in their lives
d) knowledge of the dynamic of the Ballymun community
e) suitable qualities include empathy, patience, supportiveness, motivation; an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude; being dependable, adaptable, honest.
Finally, the person needs to be a person who is able to work from ‘where the young person it at’.
