About Drogheda Special Olympics Club

Drogheda Special Olympics Club was founded shortly after the Special Olympics World Summer Games, which were held in Ireland in 2003. The club is community based and by its affiliation to Special Olympics Ireland, it is first and foremost a sports organisation for people with an intellectual disability. However, the Club is also about fun, friendship, fitting in and belonging to a group. Ultimately it’s all about improving the quality of life of its members. Through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, they make new friends and strive to realise their dreams. Promotes and develops the abilities of athletes with varying levels of abilities.

What's Involved

Facilitate weekly training sessions for athletes. Willingness to attend sport specific training and coaching courses to become a certified Assistant Coach or Head Coach. Accompany athletes to competition events.

What's required for this position

Awareness of intellectual disability.Interest in basketball. Knowledge or experience playing basketball. Good communication skills. Previous coaching experience valued but not essential as training will be provided.
