About Drogheda Special Olympics Club
Drogheda Special Olympics Club was founded shortly after the Special Olympics World Summer Games, which were held in Ireland in 2003. The club is community based and by its affiliation to Special Olympics Ireland, it is first and foremost a sports organisation for people with an intellectual disability. However, the Club is also about fun, friendship, fitting in and belonging to a group. Ultimately it’s all about improving the quality of life of its members. Through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, they make new friends and strive to realise their dreams. Promotes and develops the abilities of athletes with varying levels of abilities.
What's Involved
Assist coaches setting up and tidying away activities and equipment. Take roll call at club. Follow directions from coach. Support athletes taking part in weekly club training activities, motivate and engage athletes. Accompany team to sporting competitions. Commit to regular attendance at club. Opportunities available at Young Athlete programme, Football training, Swimming club, Basketball training, Floorball training.
What's required for this position
Understanding of intellectual disability. Good communication skills. Interest in sports. Willingness to complete training if required.
