About Feis Ceoil Association
Feis Ceoil promotes excellence in the learning and performance of music across all ages, levels and disciplines. We run an annual festival before Easter each year in Dublin which comprises almost 200 competitions, attracting over 5,000 participants from all over the island of Ireland. We also run non-competitive events and concerts throughout the rest of the year.
What's Involved
Competitions will be held in the RDS in April 2019, and are open to the public.
About the Role
The volunteer would be at the competition hall door, directing the competitors and anyone accompanying them into the hall. The volunteer would take payment from people attending and give them a receipt. The volunteer will sell a festival programme, if requested. Monies must be managed and returned to the office after the event. A log of tickets and Programmes sold will be kept and returned to staff at the office.
Time Commitment
The Feis will take place from Monday 1st to Friday 12th April, from 9.30 am to 10pm.
Sessions will be from 9.30 to 1pm, 2 - 5pm and 7 to 9 or 10pm. The end times of competitions vary a little, as delays can happen and volunteers would need to be a bit flexible.
Ideally volunteers would be available to do at least 4 or 5 days out of the fortnight. If available for the entire fortnight, so much the better!
Volunteers would call to the office, collect cash box, tickets and Programmes 20 minutes before competition start time, then go to the venue.
Volunteer Support
We will have a temporary office in the RDS during the Feis, and we will be there to give support and guidance to volunteers.
What's required for this position
The volunteer is the first person that the competitor and his/her family may come into contact with on the day of competition and would therefore need to be very personable and friendly. A good level of English is required as competitors and members of the public often have queries. However, training and support will be offered. Confidence with handling money/ticketing is also important.
Training & Support: volunteers will complete the Tusla 'Introduction to Children First' elearning training programme. This programme takes approx. 1.5 hours online and is simple, self explanatory and very informative. Clear guidance and information on how to complete this programme will be given by Feis Ceoil.
