About YMCA Dublin
YMCA Dublin has been helping vulnerable young people in Dublin’s Inner City for over 160 years. Youth work, education, family support programmes, community childcare and community employment are just some of the services built into the very core of the YMCA’s existence. We work with young people from créche going age through to youth work with education programmes for those who leave school early.
What's Involved
We are looking for volunteers who are eager to make a difference in their own community and make a difference in the life of a young person. In particular, we are in need of male mentors, but we welcome any other applicants.
A PlusOne mentor is an adult volunteer who gives their time to build a meaningful relationship and share their experiences with a young person. They will be expected to regularly meet up with the young person and do things together that are fun and engaging.
Support
Of course, all of our mentors are carefully chosen and trained before they begin working with youth. They also receive ongoing training and assistance from the programme manager.
Time Commitment
Being a PlusOne mentor is a one-year commitment during which volunteers meet with youth for 1-2 hours a week, on average.
Our programme runs from 5 - 8pm on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
What's required for this position
You will be able to reflect on life experiences and learning, show empathy and be non-judgemental towards young people and show a motivation to see young people succeed in life. No formal qualifications required.
You must be a good listener and be able to engage in conversations with the young person to encourage them to develop important life skills.
You will always set a good example to the young person and encourage positive behaviour.

Mainly in the YMCA Centre. It will include trips to various locations and activities.
