About Ballymun Regional Youth Resource
Ballymun Regional Youth Resource (BRYR), is a vibrant Youth Work organisation working with 10-24 year old's in Ballymun, Dublin. Our aim is to empower young people from Ballymun & surrounding areas to reach their full potential. We put in place a range of resources that will support them to make a happy, healthy and successful transition to adulthood. We seek to promote health, well- being and resilience at all stages of their development.
What's Involved
Summer Project Fun.
The enthusiastic volunteer will work with a team of staff and volunteers bringing a Summer Project to young people in the Ballymun area. The team will deliver on a series of summer fun activities.
The volunteer will get involved in this programme with young people in the afternoon aged 10-12years of age. The activities will include a range of from sports, arts and crafts and computers, games etc.
The Summer Programme runs for August.
Ideally the volunteer will commit to the 4 weeks of the programme in August ( but there is flexibility here). The times may vary each day however the volunteer will be assigned a timetable.
What's required for this position
The volunteer needs to be sociable, feel they can interact with young people age 10- 24yrs and can share their skills with an informal relaxed approach. Other skills include
a) an ability to engage with young people aged 10-24yrs of age- good interpersonal skills,
b) good active listening skills
c) knowledge of /empathy with the issues young people face in their lives
d) knowledge of the dynamic of the Ballymun community
e) suitable qualities include empathy, patience, supportiveness, motivation; an upbeat and enthusiastic attitude; being dependable, adaptable, honest. Finally, the person needs to be a person who is able to work from ‘where the young person it at’
Generally, the volunteer will be expected to
have fun with young people, support young people to get involved, build positive relationships work with the wider team of staff and volunteers. Follow organisational procedures/expectations.
