About Age Action
Age Action Ireland Ltd is the national network on ageing and older people. Age Action promotes better policies and services for all older people and an ageing society. Its main aim is to improve the quality of life of all older people, especially those who are most disadvantaged and vulnerable, by enabling them to live full, independent and satisfying lives for as long as they wish in their own homes, or in other appropriate accommodation.
Age Action Ireland is actively recruiting volunteer computer tutors for its Getting Started programme in Fingal. The programme assists older people (55+) to learn basic IT, internet and email skills. Only 1 in 4 older people are online and the Getting Started programme helps older people to bridge the digital divide, to beat exclusion and isolation and to increase independence and equality.
All tutors are volunteers and teach either one or two students at a time in small class groups. Classes normally run once a week for two hours.
For the beginners course volunteers will be encouraging and helping older people to learn simple IT tasks (turn computer on/off, use the mouse, keyboard, search the internet, send and receive emails). Older learners may also be interested in learning other skills such as how to use Skype, downloading photos etc. Training will be provided and tutor lesson plans are available on all topics.
