What's Involved

Jesuit Refugee Service Ireland is seeking a volunteer to befriend a Nigerian man with a visual impairment. While the primary need is for befriending, the man also wishes to practice his Arabic and is therefore seeking either an Arabic speaker or someone currently learning Arabic. Basic Arabic is sufficient and English can be used as well. The volunteer will be required to meet with the man who is based in the Finglas area.

Time Commitment
Ideally a few hours a month. How often and on what days can be negotiated based on your availability.

What's required for this position

Patience and empathy are key skills needed as well as understanding of other cultures and a friendly disposition. A minimum of basic Arabic is also required.
Volunteers will also be required to sign and adhere to the JRS code of conduct, which emphasises respect for the rights, dignity and worth of every human being and the empowerment and encouragement of all those we work with.
All volunteers will be Garda vetted prior to commencement of any work with service users.
