Healthy Volunteers Needed for Study on Eating Disorders

St. Patrick's Mental Health Services

About St. Patrick's Mental Health Services

St. Patrick's Mental Health Services is Ireland’s largest, independent, not-for-profit mental health service and aspires to be the recognised leader in:
1. the provision of quality mental health care
2. the promotion of mental health awareness
3. the protection of the rights and integrity of those experiencing mental health difficulties

What's Involved

We are a multidisciplinary team of researchers based at St Patrick's University Hospital and Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience. Our research aims to better our understanding of eating disorders and the impact that these disorders have on the ageing process.

We are currently looking for healthy volunteers to help us with our study: Impact of Eating Disorders on Biological Ageing. In this study, healthy volunteers will act as controls; a comparison group to the participants with a diagnosis of an eating disorder.

We are looking for volunteers who are:
(1) Aged 18+
(2) BMI between 18.5 - 25.0
(3) Willing to provide a blood sample
(4) Have no history of psychiatric illness including substance dependence.

Healthy volunteers will be asked to attend St Patrick's Mental Health Services to meet with a doctor on the research team and provide a fasting blood sample. Participants will then be asked to complete a clinical assessment with the doctor. The entire process is expected to last no more than 90 minutes.
Every attempt will be made to ensure that meetings are scheduled to suit the needs of the participants and reimbursements for travel costs will be made available.

We hope that this study will help clarify the biological effects of eating disorders upon the body with regards to the ageing process.
